"Girls with dreams become women with vision," they say. But what does it mean to have a dream? Most importantly, what does it take to transform it into vision. 10 years ago, I was OK becoming the ordinary African woman. Get a descent education, find a job, get married someday, have kids.
But when you come from a long line of phenomenal women, your view on life can quickly change. So one day, I was OK with becoming an ordinary African woman and the next day I wanted to become an extra ordinary woman or nothing. And that came with backlash. "You are too strong minded, you are intimidating," they say. My grit came off as disobedience and my persistence came off as intolerance.
If you let people impose their insecurities and fears unto you, your dreams will remain but mere dreams. So fiercely pursue the person you want to become because it's only through intentionality of living that you can truly achieve your heart's desires.
I'm so proud of the woman I am today because I went through a hell of a time becoming her. It wasn't all smiles and laughter, there was a lot of tears, self doubt and disappointment. But I learned that the woman I am becoming needs to be unapologetically herself. Comfortable in her imperfection. So I own my journey and now I embrace it. #iambecoming #reflection PS - To all women around the world, you have the potential to make history, USE IT!
